My lazy beagle Toby was loudly barking as I’d never heard him before.
Usually I would have waited a minute or two to see if I heard any footsteps, strange noises, or a window breaking, but I didn’t have time to spare. My mother, who had cancer, was bedridden on the couch on the main floor of our house and I needed to get to her before a potential intruder did.
I cleared the house as quickly and safely as I could, and my mother was fine. I never found out what Toby was barking at that night, but I have no doubt he scared away a burglar.

Years ago I was at a friends house he had a couple of mutual acquaintances over. I was reading the paper and the story was about a family crypt at the local cemetery had been broken into and the head of a woman who had been dead for a year had been taken as well as a head of a woman who had been dead for 50 years, also a baby’s coffin was opened and body parts taken. So I went off on this tirade of what a nut job the person who had done this must have been. Like a Michael Myer , Someone like Jason from Friday the 13th, I really drove home what a sick bastard the person must have been. Two days later I read about the story again in the paper, police have made an arrest of a local man who’s stated his reason was part of a cult he belonged to. The local man was one of the mutual acquaintances I spoke of earlier. He had been released on bail.For a number of weeks my pit bull was first in the door every time I came home, The guy took a plea deal and I never saw him again for a long long time.But every cleared entry was a relief to say the least. =)
I ran in to him again a few years later he was putting the moves on a girl I knew quite well I informed her about his past, she put an end to any possibility and for that he actually made a threat against me…which amounted to squat.
Bottom line there are times clearing your home is a good idea.
